Chewbacca, also known as Chewie, is one of the central characters in George Lucas’ Star Wars series of movies. Chewbacca was played in all four Star Wars films by British actor Peter Mayhew who wore a costume, and his voice was modified from recordings made from different animals mixed together. A towering Wookiee, Chewbacca stands 7 ft. 4-3/4 inches tall and he is best known for being Han Solo’s best friend and the First Mate of Han Solo's star ship the Millennium Falcon.
