Alphonse Gabriel "Al" Capone was a gangster who controlled all of Chicago’s 10,000 speakeasies during the 1920’s and most of the alcohol bootlegging business from Canada down to Florida. Prohibition Bureau agent Eliot Ness ended Capone’s crime career in 1931 when he was convicted for income tax evasion on evidence provided by Ness. Capone was sent to Alcatraz where he made many enemies. When he cut in line in front of other prisoners waiting for haircuts, a Texas bank robber named James Lucas told him to get back at the end of the line. Capone asked Lucas if he knew who he was. Lucas grabbed a pair of the barber's scissors and holding them to Capone's neck answered "Yeah, I know who you are, greaseball. And if you don't get back to the end of that line, I'm gonna know who you were."

John Joseph Gotti, Jr. was Mafia boss of the Gambino family crime syndicate in New York City during the 1970’s and 1980’s and at the height of his infamous career, he was receiving over $1,000,000 per month in tribute from more than 300 Mafia members. Known as the dapper Don because he sported fancy clothing, he was eventually convicted for 13 murders, racketeering, obstruction of justice, hijacking, conspiracy to commit murder, illegal gambling, extortion, tax evasion, loan sharking and other crimes in 1992. He was sentenced to life in prison where he died 10 years later.
